Powerful Role Music Has on Society.

Music is so important for society. When I was brainstorming for this project my first thought is music does 2 main things. First helps people relax and live life. Second music saves lives. Reading another article from the University of Nevada, Reno they did a study on how music helps people with stress "Music is effective for relaxation and stress management." (university of Nevada)  people have different let outs for stress some will go to the gym and workout this is typically fast and loud music to keep you moving. Others go to yoga this is very zen music much slower. Some people go out and party this typically requires upbeat music. I also looked into why music can save lives. Music can help people remember memories or connect with the artist's words. Sometimes when you are at your lowest music can keep you moving.
I have chosen 2 different songs for the 2 topics I mentioned above. The song I choose for relaxation is one of my favorite songs for yoga (my kinda relaxation) Heavenly the link is below to check it out.

Looking at the song above it is extremely slow and relaxing, there are just musical instruments no singing. This tempo is slow to calm the heart rate and move with the pace the body wants to go. A few different instruments are playing in harmony. The rhythm this song has is what helps instructors make good flows. Personally, I love listening to my yoga flow playlist and just doing small meditations to help decompress from a long stressful day. comment how/ genre music helps you relax.

The song I chose for saving lives is kinda a joke I choose a song medical professionals to use for CPR.  It is called staying alive. I didn't want to choose a specific song for this one because it's so vastly different for everyone. That's the best part of the music we all share an interest in loving it but at the same time choosing different types. The link is below

This song is extremely catchy and that's why it's used for CPR. The beat is what gets stuck in people's heads. There is an upbeat fast tempo. It was hard finding a video of just the song without instructors talking in the background. I like this song since I just started my first job in the healthcare field I have been going through a lot of training to learn CPR. This song will forever be stuck in my head. comment your song that makes a bad day feel like a good day.

Continued Explorations

I loved the blog post previously so I am excited to do it again today. I choose Mauna!

Biographical Information

Moana is a Disney movie that came out in 2016. Moana was directed by Ron Clements, John Musker, and Don Hall. There are seven original songs in Moana. I choose "How far I'll go". "How far I'll Go" is written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Lin-Manuel Miranda was born in New York on January 16, 1980. He is an American actor, composer, lyricist, and writer. He is best known for mixing classical music with a now and day twist. Miranda did this with Hamilton's hip-hop original about Alexander Hamilton.  Later in 2016, he was contributing to the movie Moana. Auli’i Cravalho is the voice for Mauna and sang the song we are reviewing today. To my surprise (like many) she is only 16. Craviho is the youngest actress to voice a Disney princess, she is also the first Polynesian Disney princess. Cravalho is going places with her beautiful voice.
What role does this specific work serve?
"How far I'll go" is a song about dreams, the future, and wants. Moana is a very strong independent kid. This song outlines the independence that Moana has through the movie. Moana makes it clear that she is ready for dramatic changes in her life and no one will stop her. At this point in the movie, she is making a decision to leave her island even though it's a hard decision. this song gives a real inside look into what the main character is facing/ going through.
Social Commentary
Typically a Disney movie will have several moral lessons throughout the storyline. In Moana, the main moral lesson is having patience. This is such an important lesson in this day and age. this generation gets everything in a split second. Computers and technology have made many people's patience go out the window. This is very sad so a good lesson to have projected to our littler generations. In the movie, patience is the key to happiness. That belief is tossed around the whole movie a few examples are Moana has to learn to have enough patience to sail the boat, or when Maui has to be patient and gain trust towards Moana on their journey together. patience is key to happiness.
My opinion
I love this movie not only for our younger generation but for the parents raising that generation. like I mentioned before people don't have enough patience anymore and I do this this movie helps reteach that. this movie was expertly thought out and the graphics are amazing for a cartoon the character voices are amazing with octaves and expression. all of the music in this movie has a higher tempo keeping everyone dancing and engaged. overall this movie is light playful and fun.

Music And The Fictive Dream

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSsx0PC5yrk

Biographical Information

Cinderella is a classic Disney movie. Directed by clade geranium, Hamilton Luke, and Wilfred Jackson. The movie was released in theaters in the United States on February 15th, 1950. The cinderella movie had six musical songs on its track. I choose my favorite song "so this is love" written by Al Hoffman, Mack David, and Jerry Livingston. "so this is love" was sung by two people, Mike Douglas and Ilene Woods. Mike Douglas was born on August 11, 1920, in Chicago Illinois. His acting career was known from the cinderella movie. Mike died on August 11, 2006, at the age of 86. Ilene woods was born on May 5th, 1929 in Portsmouth's new hemisphere. Ilene started her career started when she was 2. Unfortunately Ilene died July 1, 2010, at 81. With the help of these people a beautiful song was produced

What role does this specific work serve?

This song is played closer to the end of the movie. Cinderella is dancing with the prince not knowing she was dancing with the prince. As the song ends the clock strikes midnight. Cinderella runs down the stairs losing a shoe. The next day she finds out she was dancing with the prince that night. The prince then goes on a trip to find the foot that fits the slipper.

Social Commentary

Cinderella has a few moral lessons. Be kind no matter what, Cinderella has a very sweet soul that gets taken advantage of by her stepmother and stepsisters. Cinderella shows taking chances and being brave is important, even though she didn't have a special ball gown she wanted to go to the ball with her stepfamily. You should always believe in yourself, and lastly never stop daydreaming. Cinderella was such a popular movie it was full of many lessons for our young-minded friends to learn from.

My opinion

Cinderella was one of my mom's favorite movies when she was a little girl. She shared it with me and I'm sure she wished she didn't because I made her watch it a million times. This movie had many good lessons and was extremely good at setting the mood for fun and dancing. I loved all of the songs but my favorite has always been "so this is love". The tone is slow and lovable. the tempo is moderate enough for dancing at a ball. this song is a classic.

Musical Trip

Let's take a trip to Mexico. On this trip you will experience a mariachi band. A mariachi band is the most common type of music linked to Mexico.mariachi band is a big part of Mexico's culture. These bands date back to the 19th  century starting in the western part of Mexico spreading all over the world. Typically nowadays a mariachi band has four people but can have a dozen.

Traditional instruments that are played in this band are violin, guitar, guitarron, and vihuela. The outfits the band wears are traditional charro suits. The point is to dress to impress with bright colors, fancy beading and official embroidery.

The typical rhythm of a mariachi band is 4/4, 3/4, or 2/4. tiempos vary depending on the type of song. slower if the song is about love or gref. faster if the song is for a party or to get people dancing. The majority of the songs are in a  major scale. Lastly the texture of most mariachi bands are harmonic with the melody being supported by the other installments or vocalist.

on the left there is a slower sadder traditional mariachi band. on the right is a happy upbeat traditional dance song from a mariachi band.

my opinion: I took a trip to Mexico when I was younger and I absolutely loved the culture. the fun colors and bright music I love mariachi bands and fun dancing culture. I haven't listened to a sad song from a mariachi band before so that was very interesting. I do like the upbeat music better.

The evolution of the violin

The violin past

The violin was first known in the 16th century. There are no early violins that exist today. The way we learned about violins was from paintings. The violin became famous over Europe in the 1600s. Two earliest violin makers are from Italy Andre Amati from Cremona and Gasprom di Bertoletti from salon.

This is a picture of the first type of violin.

This is a recent violin that common in most orchestras the sound quality is much stronger than the first made violin. A acoustic violin has a quieter pitch and usually have a slower tempo.

In a orchestra the rhythm has to be perfect. All of the bows moving together and following the conductor.
The violin future
Violins have advanced by becoming electric. The first electric violin entered the market in 1930s and 1940s. Most songs that have a electric violin has a higher pitch and faster tempo.

My opinion

I think I like the classic sweet sounds of the  acoustic  Violin better than the sharp bright sounds of the electric violin. I enjoy playing the classic version and listening/watching the classical version.

Music Analysis 2

In light of the fresh snow that has fallen in Fairbanks I choose a band/ song that reminds me of a song you would play on the drive to the lake in summer. Grouplove is the name of the band. Grouplove came out with Tongue Tied in 2011 and was popular enough to be featured in a Apple I pod touch commercial.

Structure

Songs can be structured in many ways. Some structures are more common than others. According to genius the structure for Tongue Tied is into, verse 1, chorus, verse2, chorus, bridge, chorus, verse 3, chorus, and intro. It’s interesting when you take the time to break a song down how much it becomes a story.

Rhythm

Grouplove made a very upbeat dancing rhythm. Tongue Tied has a constant rhythm that is difficult to explain without the song playing or the music to read. I think its interesting the song dose not repeat that much keeping the listening ears listening.

Tempo

Tongue Tied is considered to be in the rock genre of music. The tempo goes a long with that statement, 113 BPM lasting the whole song about three minutes and 38 seconds. This song will get you up and moving with a smile.

Pitch

The pitch is actually fairly low. The song is so upbeat you would thing there would be a loud bright voice on the other side of the microphone but listeners don’t get that. The voices of the artists are fairly low while the instruments carry our ears through the song with a brighter louder pitch.

Harmony

Harmony is peace something good to listen to. When a listener listens to Tonge Tied that’s what they get. The two artists Ryan Rabin and Captain Cuts have perfect harmony with their voices while the instruments play off of each other in perfect harmony.

I hope with all of this new knowledge about Tonge Tied you go check it out if you haven’t listened to it and if you have heard of this song I hope you enjoy all of this new information like Idid.

Musical Analysis #1

The song I am looking at today is called am I wrong by Nico and Vinz. This song came out in 2013 with very popular reviews .I have read several pages of reviews. From those comments this song received a 5 out of 5. Most people count this song as pop while others claim jazz, funk, highlife. Personally I think this is a pop song.

https://youtu.be/bg1sT4ILG0w

Lyrics
This is a very reputable source to view the lyrics for Am I wrong. Nico and Vinz talk about following your heart and doing what you want. Making your own path and following your dreams. I was 13 when this came out right around the time kids want freedom but also are pressured to figure out what to do for the future. I think this song got popular for that relatable reason.
Timpo/BPM
Am I wrong is a upbeat pop song. Many people dance, clean, or sing to. According to note discover this song was in the key of C minor. This songs BPM was conducted at 120. 120 BPM puts this song in the moderato scale for speed.
Chords
According to chord zone am I wrong has 4 courts through the song. I was a little surprised since it was so catchy and sounds like a lot is going on. The song dose have some reputation and after  re-listening  to it that makes since.
